State-run University of the Philippines in Diliman ranked 68th on the list, while Ateneo de Manila University ranked 86th and De La Salle University ranked 142nd.
The University of Santo Tomas, which marked its 400th anniversary last year, is 148th.
On the other hand, the University of Southeastern Philippines in Davao City was among those ranked 251st to 300th, marking the first time the school made the list.
But the four Philippine universities did not fare as well as last year.
In 2011, UP ranked 62nd; Ateneo 65th; UST 104th; and La Salle 107th.

Do this ranking matters? A very big YES!
I will not give any comment against Ateneo and La salle simply because I don't have any clue of their academic performance and I wasn't able to step into those campuses. But UP here are some few things that we need to talk about.
Over the years our rank is diving deep into this list of top universities in asia. Since I was in college we've been asking the Board of Regents(BOR) to address critical issues but UP officials were either slow in responding the call or they simply ignored it. So what are those elements that we've been talking before?
1. The size of students over the years has obviously grown. The ratio of professor to students should have been set at a maximum of 20 students per class but during my time it was already increased to even 35 per class.
2. Conducive learning environment issues. It is undeniable that it is not easy to focus when your classroom is about to collapse and it is near the road where the public vehicles are passing by.
3. Brain-drain. Competent and experienced professors are moving out of the University. Some of them went to Japan, Singapore, and USA because of higher compensation and benefit.
4. Lack of research fund. One of my professors in college admitted that she was doing a research for Ateneo and not for UP because Ateneo offered the funding of her research. So with one of my Physics professors who was doing a research for Japan government.
5. In relation to #3, newly admitted students in UP are no longer that intelligent. I personally asked how come there are students who never passed UPCAT but they were able to get into the university? The answer is BRIBERY according to rumors. These students bribed and use the power of MONEY to enter the campus. So what's the result? When these students go into politics they even intensify the practice of bribery.
To those people who doesn't know, there is a big internal issue between UP campuses. If you are from Diliman you are better than UPLB and so on. Maroons we all have the same color, UPD, UPLB, UPM, UPB, etc. we have one common goal but why are we fighting each other and using our useless, non-sense, and stupid pride? Now look what happened to our University ranking! Observe what's happening in our government!
Wake up UPians! We've been chosen to be in UP because we are OBLIGED to build a strong nation. We are REQUIRED to serve our country at all cost! We study in UP because in return we have to help our dying nation!
HONOR and EXCELLENCE can only be achieved if all Maroons will truly understand the meaning of being maroons!
