Man from China Receives New Nose on his Forehead for a transplant plastic surgery
Hi folks! DH.com have a strange news today and you better check this out!
A guy from China received a new nose through a very unusual treatment conducted by a Chinese doctor. But for some reasons his new nose is on his forehead. What the heck? Why his doctor didn't position it somewhere else?
22-year-old Chinese man, nicknamed Xiaolian, met a car accident in August 2012, which severely damaged his nose. Unfortunately, after the accident he only received a basic treatment since he was reportedly unable to afford a surgery. The consequence of failing to seek proper medical treatment had his nose infected and deformed that it could no longer be saved. Hence, the doctors decided to have him undergo a reconstructive plastic surgery for nine months.
According to LiveScience, "The man's doctors placed tissue expanders, which create space to stretch the skin, under the man's forehead, and created the rough shape of a nose, probably using screws and plates. They then harvested cartilage from his ribs to fill in the nose. Once the nose is ready, they will rotate the entire assemblage — skin, blood vessels, cartilage and all — and move the new nose to where his current nose sits."
The lead plastic surgeon, Guo Zhihui, from Xiehe Hospital, said that the nose transplant would happen soon and that Xiaolian could lead a normal life afterward.
Last year, a 56-year-old British businessman who lost his nose to cancer had a nose replacement grown on one of his arms.
University College London scientist Professor Alex Seifalian, who was behind the pioneering treatment, said the nose will be the same as the man's original and his sense of smell should be as they were before the transplant. His identity, however, was kept annonymous.
The medical procedures are weird. But if you have these options to fix your damaged nose, which one would you prefer? A nose sticking in your arm or the one on your forehead?
