Brave reporter Atom Araullo lauded by Netizens, trending on Social media
Atom Araullo, one of the field reporters of ABS-CBN news, dared to cover the devastating super typhoon Yolanda as it slammed the area of Tacloban City on Friday, November 8, 2013.
Atom Araullo has been lauded by netizens for his dangerous coverage of the world's most powerful typhoon this year.
During Atom Araullo's live report on early Friday, he went out and walked along a street in Tacloban city while several falling debris were spotted around him. Sometimes he had to move closer to the wall of a building to cover himself from the debris. Due to the strong winds and heavy rains, Araullo most of the time was unable to hear the comments from the news anchors located in the base station of ABS-CBN in Quezon City. Atom, however, was successful in delivering live feed videos and was also able to relay the actual scenario in Tacloban city.
A few hours after Atom Araullo's live coverage, the brave reporter of ABS-CBN received hundreds of compliments in twitter and other social networking sites.
Araullo graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Physics from the University of the Philippines (Diliman Campus). He became a member of the League of Filipino Students (LFS) (an activist group in the university), as well as the chairperson of the Student Alliance for the Advancement of Democratic Rights - UP (STAND-UP). He also won as Councilor in the UP Diliman University Student Council elections of 2003, garnering the highest number of votes(Wikipedia but sourced from PhilStar).
