Jeddah OFW Edilyn Sarino Injured After an Attempt to Escape from Abusive Employer
Edilyn Sarino, an Overseas Filipino Worker(OFW) in Jeddah, sustained critical injuries after she attempted to escape from her abusive employer. She was rushed to a nearby hospital where she underwent intensive treatment due to the incident.
According to various news outlets, Edilyn Sarino went abroad to have a legitimate work. She accepted a job offered by an Arab employer who allegedly has a disabled son that requires a massage therapist. However, when she arrived in the apartment of the Arab man, she found out that the alleged son doesn't exist.
In an interview, Edilyn mentioned that her employer forced her to perform intimate massages on him. She was also mandated to do other houseworks which are not part of the signed contract of agreement. The Arab employer allegedly wanted to marry her as well but she refused since she merely wanted to work and earn for a living. She also declined the lavish gifts that were given to her.
In her desire to escape from her abusive employer in Jeddah, Edilyn climbed to the third floor of her employer's house and used the emergency ladder to escape. Unfortunately, the ladder only reached down to the second floor of the apartment. Thus, Sarino decided to jump from the second floor to the nearby building but she failed to reach the other side of the roof. She fell to the ground and lost her consciousness.
Rizza Sopero, a concerned OFW, rescued Edilyn with the help of kind Arab nationals in the area. The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) has already been informed of Edilyn's case and has promised to help the victim.
As of press time, Edilyn Sarino is now in stable condition and she continues to recover in Jeddah hospital.
