RC Cola mixed with Gasoline Sold in Tagum
What would you do if you drank an RC Cola with gasoline? Would you have time to get mad of the person who sold it? Or would you rather rush yourself to the hospital?
A certain cola consumer in Tagum City was allegedly victimized by a person who sold 1.5L RC Cola which apparently mixed with gasoline. In a warning posted by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) based in Davao del Norte, a complainant reported the incident to the government agency when someone from their office drank a Biggie RC Cola diluted with gasoline on May 18, 2015. The RC Cola drinks when bought on May 16, 2015 were tightly sealed, according to the report.
In a post by Philippine Information Agency, the victim immediately felt a burning sensation in his throat the moment he drank the RC cola which could have been the impact of the gasoline content that was mixed with the soft drink. The complaint also reportedly smelled the scent of the petroleum. The officemates of the victim immediately rushed the RC cola complainant to Regional Hospital for treatment.
The Philippine Information Agency said, "the complainant [should] bring the case to the Department of Health – Food and Drugs Administration since it was under their jurisdiction."
The Facebook post of DTI mentioned the strategy of the suspect in selling the RC Cola with gasoline. The person allegedly used a rickshaw (padyak) to transport the soft drinks from village-to-village in Tagum city. The unidentified suspect reportedly sold the drinks for a whopping discounted price of P18 from its suggested retail price of P32, which easily caught the attention of potential cola buyers.
Meanwhile, the government agency warned the netizens and soft drink consumers to be more careful, cautious, and vigilant when purchasing RC Cola items which are being sold at a very low price in Tagum City.
UPDATE: RC Cola Davao visited DTI on May 22, 2015 to verify the complaint. The soft drink company is also conducting a separate investigation regarding the incident.
