The recent actions of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources(DENR) Secretary are lauded by the Filipino citizens and thousands of environmetalists around the world. In the first two weeks of Gina Lopez serving as DENR Secretary, she has already suspended five mining companies operating in the country. She explained that her efforts will never stop unless all mining operators will strictly adhere to the guidelines issued by DENR relating to environmental safety standards.
In a radio interview, Gina frankly stated her plans about shutting down more Chinese mining operations whenever she finds irregularities which directly impacts the environment and the community surrounding the mining areas.
"If they don’t get their act together, I’ll tell them go home," Lopez told DZMM.
Secretary Gina Lopez highlighted her priority in DENR. She said every mining companies should consider people's well being in the society where they are conducting their operations. Chinese operators should ensure that they will not create massive destructions to the environment or else she will force them to go home to China.
"Our people’s well being is more important than the money you make. If you want your money, go home bye bye," she said.
Secretary Gina Lopez mentioned that all mining groups should shape up because in the recent reports Chinese fishermen also continue to destroy the coral reefs in the West Philippine Sea.
The secretary is also wondering why the Chinese businessmen are becoming too materialistic where in fact in the previous millenium their culture promotes great values and "essentially very spiritual".
Gina Lopez said, "all they think of is money and they’re bullies, and it's not good at all."
Looking at the current campaigns of DENR Secretary Gina Lopez, she is already giving us a good assurance that she will fight the invasive and destructive extraction of minerals by these Chinese mining companies in our country.
