Why Aljur Abrenica Wants to Move Out from GMA Network
When Aljur Abrenica was asked by Philippine Daily Inquirer on Friday if he plans to move to the rival network, ABS-CBN, his lawyer Ferdie Topacio replied via text stating, “Nothing definite yet for my client. No new manager. No new network. He’s taking it one step at a time.”
It appears that Aljur Abrenica wants to cut his contract in GMA but according to the network, they do not release their talents from their existing contracts without valid reasons especially if the claims cited by its talents are not true. The talent division of GMA network announced that it will respond to the issue when they receive a copy of Abrenica’s complaint.
As of the moment, the case is stirring up quite an issue. The camp of Aljur raised a concern about his hectic schedule which usually caused him to be sick and exhausted. He allegedly requested for a 2a.m. work cut-off time, however, GMA did not do anything about his demand. He also complained about him having gastritis because of his work load.
Aljur claimed that “GMA does not have any clear and concrete plan with regard to the direction of his career and growth as a performing artist.” He also pointed out that GMA has been creating the “sexy” image for him since he started in 2008.
He has played countless roles where he needs to be “topless” with most of his scenes — he has played the role of a fisherman in “Dyesebel” in 2008, he played the role of a tikbalang (in “Luna Mystika” in 2009) and not to mention one of his most famous roles yet, as a living statue/veritable sex object (in “Machete,” 2011).
He was appalled that GMA had proposed used his “novelty” songs with double meanings and sexually played nature along with titles “Nota,” “Sisid,” “Abs,” “Legs” and “Check In.”
He also stated instances wherein his career has been “mismanaged” which caused him to lose many career opportunities.
In his defense against the people who judge him thinking that he’s just looking for excuses to leave the station, he said in Bandila evening news, “Hindi ako nakikipagaway. Tumatanaw ako ng utang na loob. Ayoko sanang umabot sa ganito. Hindi po ako nabibigyan ng pagpapahalaga at respeto sa career ko.”
So what do you think? With all the stated facts above, should Aljur really insist to be released from his contract? Or you think these reasons are not yet enough?
