6-year-old daughter of Typhoon Victim said "Ma, just let go, Save yourself"
A heart touching story of a 6-year-old daughter, who sacrificed her own life during the onslaught of super typhoon Yolanda in Tacloban City, just to save her mom is making the rounds online.
The little angel said, "Ma, just let go. Save yourself."
The sky was clear and the sun was brightly shining hours before the deadly landfall of the monster typhoon. Bernadette Tenegra, a 44-year-old high school teacher, was in her home located on the bank of a river. The Tenegra family gathered together in their shanty at Barangay 66-Paseo de Legazpi, believing that the powerful storm will immediately die out as it had always done in the past.
But things didn't happen as expected, the water rose with astonishing speed, their wooden house toppled over, sweeping away the occupants, including Tenegra’s husband and her other daughter. They were able to scramble to safety, but the 6-year-old Tenegra struggled in the raging current along with sharp deadly debris. Bernadette managed her way to the child and was holding her and kept telling her to hang on.
“I crawled over to her, and I tried to pull her up. But she was too weak. It seemed she had already given up,” the older Tenegra said.
The grieving mother said she would never forget the last words of her daughter before she succumbed to death: "Ma, just let go. Save yourself."
