Anakpawis files libel case vs Mayor Herbert Bautista
Anakpawis party-list Rep. Rafael Mariano on Wednesday formally submitted a four-page complaint regarding a libelous claim of Quezon City Mayor Herber Bautista. The Anakpawis representative filed the libel case before the Office of the Ombudsman after the mayor accused an organization of extorting money from informal settlers along Agham Road. According to Rep. Mariano, Mayor Bautista also accused that the leaders of the group has been funding the informal settlers to resist the impending demolition of houses in the area.
Amid the libel case filed against Herbert Bautista, the QC Mayor firmly said, he allegedly received an intelligence report that a group is extorting Php1,000 each from informal settler families in exchange for protection from relocation. He said the group started the violence to protect their "rackets."
"Pinagsasamantalahan ang mga beneficiaries dahil meron kaming natanggap na intelligence report na sinisingil nila ng tig 1,000 pesos yung mga tao...para ipaglalaban sila na manatili diyan. Obvious na obvious na raket yan ng mga taon diyan," he said.
Meanwhile, the Quezon City police also filed charges, which includes indirect assault, obstruction and illegal assembly against four leaders of the squatters along Agham Road who were mainly involved on the clashes on Monday. - Philstar/ABS-CBN news
