CDO representative Jose Benjamin “Benjo” Benaldo, husband of the controversial Brazilian model Daiana Menezes, left a suicide letter before he made a failed suicide in his office at the Batasan complex on Thursday night.
According to ABS-CBN news, two suicide notes and around P100,000 were found on top of the desk of Cagayan de Oro Rep. Benjo Benaldo after he tried to kill himself.
'This is the money for my cremation please cremate... my death is for electoral reform sana mabago na sistema," one of the notes allegedly stated.
However, according to PDI news, Rep. Benaldo was the only one inside the room and investigators did not find any suicide note inside the room. A source described Benaldo’s office as “already bare” since the lawmaker was already packing up his things and preparing to leave his office.
Why the CDO rep attempted a suicide?
Benaldo, a first-term congressman, ran for reelection in the May 13 elections but lost to Liberal Party bet Rolando Uy. According to House Speaker Rep. Sonny Belmonte, Benaldo’s wife said the congressman became “unhappy” after his failed bid.
“After his loss in the recent elections, he is sometimes unhappy and so forth,” said Belmonte. The house speaker also said he does not want to speculate on the incident.
“Whether it was accidental or not accidental I cannot venture that point but there is no question na siya lang ‘yung nandoon sa kwarto,” Belmonte told dzMM.
Update: Outgoing Cagayan de Oro City Rep. Jose Benjamin “Benjo” Benaldo was writing something on a piece of paper a few minutes before his staff found him drenched in his own blood at his private office at the Batasan Pambansa building. But the contents of the apparent suicide note is not expected to be revealed to the public as Speaker Feliciano Belmonte issued a press statement yesterday appealing to the public to “respect the privacy” of Benaldo’s family and avoid any other speculations about the reason behind the wounding of the young solon. - Manila Bulletin

Update#2: The police officer leading the investigation of the shooting incident involving Cagayan de Oro Representative Jose Benjamin "Benjo" Benaldo in the House of Representatives said Saturday that investigators from the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) have not found any suicide note or money inside the congressman's office, contrary to reports from other media networks claiming that Benaldo left P100,000 and a suicide note on his desk minutes before the incident occurred. - GMA news
