Germany Hires 500 Filipino Nurses
Germany Hires 500 Filipino Nurses (Is this a big help to unemployed nurses?)
Thousands of successful passers of the Nurse Licensure Examination (NLE) are registered each year in the country. In 2013, 16,219 out of 37,887 passed the NLE but the domestic employment rate for nurses is so slim. Another concern being raised by several nursing groups is the local salary offer which is barely hitting the minimum wage requirement.
Because of the said problems, experienced nurses aim to find better opportunities abroad. The other month, thousands of nurses filed their application in POEA hoping to land a job in Germany. It was reported that the country was hiring 500 nurses from the Philippines until next year as part of the Agreement on Triple Win Migration.
They will work initially as assistant nurse at hospitals and as qualified nurse after recognition of the foreign qualification work, the POEA said. The reported starting gross salary is €1,900.
But looking at the qualifications, nurses who just got their licenses last year will be declined because one of the requirements is at least two years of "PROFESSIONAL experience" as nurse in hospitals, rehabilitation centers and care institutions. In addition to that, the applicant must be:
1. Filipino citizen and permanent resident of the Philippines with Bachelor of Science in Nursing (four years professional education; (B.S.N.)
2. Active Philippine Nursing License
3. The applicant must be willing to undergo German language training in the Philippines for
up to six months to be paid by the employer.
Dear parents, would you still encourage your sons and daughters to take nursing courses? DiversityHuman.com is not alienating the profession but we hope that each one will realize that we have generated thousands of registered nurses every year but their employment is still a challenge. We can not blame our government alone. There are so many fields that we chose to neglect.
And how about the risks abroad e.g the case of three Filipino nurses who were kidnapped in Libya?
