John Henry Marquez wins Gold in 2014 IMAS, Math Competion in Taiwan
John Henry Marquez, grade 6 student of the University of the Philippines Integrated School (UPIS) in Quezon City topped the prestigious 2014 International Mathematics Assessments for Schools (IMAS) in Taiwan. He earned a perfect score and won Gold medal in a certain Math category.
In a report of PDI news, Dr. Sun Wen-hsien--President of the Chiu Chang Mathematics Education Foundation in Taipei and chairman of the IMAS Executive Board, announced the list of Filipino medalists on Friday. Dr. Simon Chua, president of the non-government Mathematics Trainers’ Guild-Philippines (MTG) was also present during the awards ceremony.
Aside from John Henry Marquez, 64 Filipino students also won the Math competition in various categories. Over 30,000 IMAS contestants came from Canada, Bulgaria, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, Iran and Hong Kong.Â
