Team Philippines finished 7th Place in Myanmar SouthEast Asian Games 2013
The recently concluded 27th Southeast Asian Games held in Myanmar was still something that we Filipinos should be proud of even though they just managed to give us a lackluster and somewhat pitiable result after the competition came into a halt.
The Philippine delegation ended found themselves on 7th place which was their worst performance ever in 36 years. It just showed us how bad the current condition of the Philippine sports really is. The SEA games is a major sporting event in South East Asia which is being held once every two years and has 11 countries in the said region as participants. I wish the result will be better two years from now. We desperately have to do an overhaul in our Sports department to bring back out competitive spirits and once again become a 1st place contender.
The Philippines tallied a total of 29 golds, 34 silvers and 38 bronze medals and ended up on the lower half of the standings while our arch nemesis Thailand finished on top of the medals table, winning a total of 282 medals, including 107 golds.
Unsurprisingly, the host country Myanmar took advantage from its home ground, occupying the second place spot with 86 gold medals from a total haul of 233, the most number of medals a nation ever won in SEA games’ history. Vietnam finished next to Myanmar on the GOLD medal tally with 73, then Indonesia with 65, Malaysia with 43, and Singapore with 34. Laos had 13 golds, Cambodia had 8, Timor Leste with 2 and Brunei with a vile 1 gold medal were the four countries which ranked poorer than the Philippines.
