Three Filipino nurses kidnapped in Libya
Three (3) Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) in Libya were allegedly abducted on July 8, 2013, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs.
"A Libyan man kidnapped three OFW nurses-two men and a woman—at around 9 p.m. on July 8," said DFA spokesperson Raul Hernandez. The kidnapper forced the pinoy nurses to ride a car and were taken to an isolated area at the outskirts of the city of Sebha, the DFA spokesman added.
One of the male nurses was able to escape and seek help from a Libyan family who called the police while two other nurses were found and rescued more than an hour later, with the help of their frequent Libyan taxi driver.
“The nurses were reportedly shaken but unharmed,” Hernandez said, adding that the Pinoys have been debriefed and are now resting in the Sebha hospital. The Philippine Embassy has also been informed that the Filipinos will move to Tripoli to recover from the incident.
Hernandez meanwhile said Ambassador Oscar Orcine will bring the matter to Libya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure “better security for OFWs in Libya.” - Yahoo news
