RIP Behn Cervantes, Veteran Actor-Director dies at 74
Behn Cervantes, a well-respected actor, director, and activist died due to a complication from pneumonia and diabetes. He passed away at around 10:30am on August 15, 2013 at the Asian Hospital in Alabang, Muntinlupa. He was 74.
In a news report, the theater and screen actor requested that his death be announced a week later. However, some of his friends already took to social media to express their condolences.
In 1974, Cervantes established the UP Repertory Company "to combat the censorship that was in place during Martial Law," as he wrote in UP Forum. Not too long, Behn Cervantes was arrested, together with his friend Lino Brocka and he was detained in Fort Bonifacio, which was at the time a dreaded army camp and not yet the high-end real estate development hub that it is today.
May he rest in peace and condolences to the family of Behn Cervantes.
