Metro-wide crackdown of jaywalkers - Fine is Php200
Jaywalkers be aware of the Php200 Penalty
ABS-CBN news published an article regarding strict implementation of Metropolitan Manila Development Authority’s (MMDA) campaign to intensify the anti-jaywalking policy starting today.
"MMDA personnel in red uniform, called the “Men in Red”, will keep an eye to jaywalkers in key areas in Metro Manila", said MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino. Anyone caught will be fined else will be given a 15-minute on-the-spot lecture on road safety. The Metro Manila Council (MMC) approved on Tuesday an amendatory resolution increasing the penalty of jaywalking from Php150 to Php200.
According to MMDA official, jaywalking is one of the contributory factors to the traffic problems and road accidents in Metro Manila. Thus, strict implementation of penalties to jaywalkers would help lower these incidents.
Comments:
I would like the general public to be vigilant to MMDA enforcers. For one, this could be a source of harassments.
To all jaywalkers, use the pedestrian lanes when crossing the streets or the available footbridges along the designated locations in the metro. Better not violate any rule set by MMDA to avoid any inconvenience or harassments. By the way, I am not stereotyping the MMDA authorities but how can we make sure that the people will be treated right when caught? How can we make sure that these MMDA enforcers will not ask additional money from violators?
I've been hearing a lot of negative reports, complaints, and harassments made by MMDA enforcers across the web and in Facebook. So, MMDA officers, be good else this metro-wide crackdown of jaywalkers will turn into a metro-wide crackdown of MMDA harassments.
