Most Expensive Postal ID Processing Fee in Manila, No Receipt Issued to the Applicant
Manila, Philippines – Postal ID is one of the most important government honored cards that a Filipino citizen can use to authenticate their identity. This is widely accepted in various public and private establishments. One can easily secure this ID from any local post office. WoOh! my bad, some experienced hell just to get this card. Do you want proof?
Amid the hype of the pork barrel scam and continuous cycle of corruption in the Philippine government, a certain employee who worked for the Philippine Postal district office in Manila allegedly demanded a fee of Php550 in exchange of the postal ID card. The complaint was aired by a certain Facebook user and she posted the details of the incident right on her wall on July 14, 2014.
Story behind the MOST EXPENSIVE Postal ID in the Philippines
The victim allegedly went to the local post office on July 7, 2014. She filled out the application form and accordingly submitted the required supporting documents. When she approached the attendant to process the application, the alleged PHILPOST employee asked a processing fee of Php550.00. The victim was even informed that the postal office doesn’t process rush requests and advised her that the scheduled release of the ID will be on July 10.
As typically observed in the Philippines, one can anticipate a possible delay of the processing of the document, hence, the victim decided to get the ID the next day, July 11, 2014. Much to her surprise, the same PHILPOST employee spoke to her and said that the postal ID was not yet available.
The frustrated applicant went home and spent her weekend contemplating the reason why her postal ID was not yet released. She was also questioning herself if the application fee was in accordance to the protocol implemented by the PHLPOST system all over the country.
On Monday, July 14, 2014 which was five days from the application date, she successfully secured the unlaminated ID worth Php550. Here’s the most interesting part. For the third time, the same PHILPOST employee declined to issue a receipt for the payment and reasoned out that it has to be processed in the main office. This is ridiculous! Can you believe this? Anyways, the poor victim went home without any receipt of the transaction.
Upon checking the details of PHILPOST Form 391, it bears the following terms.
“I have the honor to apply for a Postal I.D. Attached ; are three (3) identical copies of my
picture (2’x2’) and One Hundred Seventy Five Pesos (P175.00) for the fee therefore. “
Why did the PHILPOST employee in Manila demanded a fee of Php550? That we really don’t know. Some of the netizens who saw the post of the victim testified that they were able to get the postal ID for only 100+ in Tondo area.
