Nonito Donaire, 29 years old also known as "The Filipino Flash" and currently rated by "The Ring" as the number four pound-for-pound boxer in the world made an overwhelming win againts the taller South African fighter Jeffrey Mathebula. The ringside judges scored the bout 119-108, 118-109, and 117-110 all for the Filipino fighter. Donaire now improved his Professional boxing record to 29 wins with only 1 defeat.
During the first few rounds, Nonito showed control of the fight. On the fourth round he unleased a powerful left hook counter punch and scored a knockdown to Mathebula. However, Mathebula recovered well and got himself into the fight and luckily saved by the bell.
Donaire continued to be aggressive on the remaining rounds and again in the 11th round he made another devastating punch causing Mathebula to spit blood and moments later hung his mouth open with blood flowing. Donaire did well in the final two rounds but unfortunately Donaire failed to end the fight with his money punch.
Nevertheless, it was an uncontested victory of a remarkable talent--Nonito Donaire.
Jeffrey Mathebula dropped his record to 26-4 with 2 draws.
