UP Fighting Maroons Coach, Ricky Dandan Resigns
UP Fighting Maroons Coach, Ricky Dandan Resigns
The alleged resignation of the UP Fighting Maroons basketball coach, Ricky Dandan, remains a mystery to UAAP fans.
It's obvious that UP Fighting Maroons is heading nowhere from the time Ricky Dandan stepped in as the coach of the team in 2011. Could it be the 0-8 win-loss record that triggered his resignation? Or is it the all time 33 defeats with only 3 wins that prompts Ricky Dandan to quit from his post?
Rumors spread online that Dandan walked out from the dugout of the maroons in Araneta Coliseum after their disappointing 59-67 loss to Ateneo on Thursday. Since then, no press statements were released by UP officials if there was a misunderstanding between Ricky Dandan and his team members while they gathered in the dugout.
As of press time, major sports news agencies made phone calls to Ricky Dandan but none of them received a return call.
UPDATE (August 19, 2013, 10:02am NY Time): The Dean of UP College of Human Kinetics (CHK), Ronualdo Dizer, on Monday has confirmed Ricky Dandan's resignation from his position as head coach of UP Fighting Maroons, according to news reports. Dizer also said that Rey Madrid will be the new coach of the Fighting Maroons, but added that Dandan has the option to stay with the team in some capacity.
