UP Maroons Impossible Win Against de La Salle Green Archers
Nobody was expecting that the squad of UP Maroons will defeat the strong basketball lineup of de La Salle Green Archers in UAAP Season 78. The rare achievement of state University students broke its last known back-to-back win that was recorded in 2006. The final score was 71-66, in favor of the Fighting Maroons.
Thousands of audiences, generally Green Archers, couldn’t believe the devastating force shown by the underdog in the UAAP basketball league. It was in the end of the first half when Maroons marked a huge lead against de La Salle, 41-28. The enormous figure was due to the sharp perimeter shots shown by the Maroons towards the end of second quarter.
The go to men of Archers, Jeron Ten and Jason Perkins, tried to erase the lead of Maroons but two guns against the entire Maroon squad weren’t enough. The UP basketball players continued to nail additional points until the remaining seconds in the fourth quarter.
UP Maroons cut the chase in the last 45 seconds of the game. When the buzzer alarmed, the Fighting Maroons earned 71 points while the Green Archers banked 66 points. The team now earned their second straight win in the UAAP season 78.
The victory of UP Fighting Maroons was immediately celebrated on Twitter right after the end of the ball game. The hash tag #UPFight was used by its students and faculty members to signify a fiery message noting that the group has finally found their grip and confidence while playing against the toughest teams in the university league.
