Secretary Gina Lopez firmly warns Chinese mining companies to comply with the Philippine mining standards else they will be sent home to mainland China. The recent actions of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources(DENR) Secretary are lauded by the Filipino citizens and thousands of environmetalists around the world. In the first two weeks of Gina Lopez serving as DENR Secretary, she has already suspended five mining companies operating in the country. She explained that her efforts will never stop unless all mining operators will strictly adhere to the guidelines issued by DENR relating to environmental safety standards.

I am sharing this article with the Filipino people to inform them of the real state of the discussions during the 45th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting in Phnom Penh on 09 July 2012. I was present during the discussions in the different sessions. I feel it is my duty to present to all Filipinos the efforts made by the Philippine Delegation to seek the unified support of ASEAN to the West Philippine Sea issue which affects not only its member countries but the region as a whole. Through this article, I hope to present the real picture during the Ministerial Meeting from the point of view of a Filipino, and in the process, correct the grave misimpressions generated by some who were not present during those meetings.

REUTERS reported U.S drone attacks in northwest Pakistan on Monday resulting to 15 casualties. According to the news, this attack would likely add tensions between Washington and Islamabad amid a standoff over NATO supply routes to Afghanistan.
Officials said that this 3rd attack in three days targeted a militant hideout located in the Hesokhel Village of the North Waziristan
tribal region.
Death toll in the past three days now increased to 27. Unmanned planes-U.S. drones hit targets in the South Waziristan tribal region on
Saturday and Sunday.
United States and Pakistan are having difficult negotiations for the re-opening of the overland supply routes to NATO fources in Afghanistan. Islamabad blocked the routes in November 2011 after 24 Pakistani soldiers were killed by cross-border "friendly fire" from NATO aircraft.
